Philadelphia Waterborne is a program in Engaged, Expertise-based Learning, rooted in
the core belief that students learn best by doing, especially when that
doing is made relevant — constructively, practically, historically,
culturally — to their cultural environment and to their daily lives. From
that foundation, the mission is three-fold:
* To reinforce students’ engagement in core educational curricula
using hands-on, experiential, and project-based educational
programming
* To ensure that those projects are real and transformative life
experiences for the students
* To engage existing cultural arts institutions — and through them the
broader adult communities — as essential educational partners
Towards that mission, Philadelphia Waterborne offers Philadelphia middle- and high-school students structured boat-building programs that can be implemented at their schools. Small groups of students meet weekly to build 12-foot long wooden rowboats, to jointly explore the design considerations, mathematics, physics, and geometry, and even the cultural history of boats, to launch their completed boats on the city's rivers, and then to contribute those boats to community boating programs available to the residents of their communities.

Yes, the security and confidentiality of your information is our highest priority. We will not sell, trade or share your personal information with anyone else, nor send donor mailings on behalf of other organizations, and we will only share personal information if you have given us specific permission to do so.
How do I know that my donation was made successfully?
You will receive an emailed receipt immediately after your donation is submitted and your credit card is processed. Your donation will also show up on your bank or card statement within 1-3 business days.
Do I get a receipt?
Yes, a receipt is sent to your email inbox once your donation is processed. Please be sure to keep a copy of your receipt for tax purposes. If you select a recurring donation, you will be sent an individual receipt each period when your donation is processed.
